Here’s a yummy summertime dessert….
a dessert that’s popular in New Zealand and Australia
but I’d never heard of it ’til 3 years ago…
Pavlova
yummmmmm
It’s a giant meringue….
topped with whipped cream,
a fruit reduction/puree
and fresh fruit
mmmm…..mmmmmm…..
That’s a photo of a Pav
that was made for us in March,
by our family friend, Jampa…
a former baker…now a Buddhist monk
And here’s his recipe for Pav…
what a treat!
Add a few blueberries….to the strawberries on top
red, white and blue
ready for a 4th of July treat
or for the rest of the world….
just a yummy summer, or winter, treat
irresistibly sweet!
~
Update a few hours later:
Kathy’s daughter Julie
who lives way up north (!!!)
just went out and picked strawberries,
(she just emailed this “box of berries” photo!)
to add to her own Pav….
yummmmm

My mouth’s watering although I must resist because I was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I can’t say I’m a saint with respect to sweets…but I keep trying really hard.

Oh…that’s difficult…this dessert is yummy, but close to too sweet…probably most of us would benefit from cutting out the sugar…I’ve improved, with occasional lapses…this might be one lapse, if I get the energy to go out and buy the ingredients…which I might… 😀

I’ll live vicariously through you…tell me how yummy it tastes. 😆

This does look refreshing! I love the handwritten recipe! I’m glad you have something written down! What are we going to leave our children if we continue to do all our recipe collecting on-line, and don’t have an index card somewhere! 🙂 Debra

Even more special…that recipe was written down by Jampa…who made it for us!

Oooh, this look super yummy. I love meringues and used to purchase huge ones them from a bakery in New York. Thanks for the share! 🙂

It is remarkably delicious…I’ve made it, and it was good… but it didn’t turn out as good as Jampa’s… apparently there’s a baker’s touch that adds to the texture…Isn’t it amazing to have a huge meringue?

I am not a good baker, every cake I bake ends up looking flat. LOL but, I am going to share the recipe with friends of ours who are amazing cooks and bakers. During Christmas they bake all sorts of cookies and pastries and send out over 300 tin boxes of the cookies as gifts to friends and to their community.

It sure is….odd how this dessert is almost a national tradition in Australia and New Zealand but I had never heard of it until our friend was visiting…do Canadians know about it?…

Pavlova is most certainly a favourite here in NZ but when I first arrived everyone said “I didn’t make a pav because everybody else will have made you one” when we were invited to dinner. I have a friend who makes the most delicious creations and though I don’t eat deserts I do try hers. 🙂

oh…I think it’s so delicious…and interesting that it hasn’t made it’s way to the US…especially California, where people are always looking for something new and interesting.
