“True to my North Star… but also, in this moment, I am safe enough, fed enough, loved enough and good enough”

“True to my own North Star”
a short, soothing 50 second video,
added today for “Nurturing Thursday”
(Becca Givens, On Dragonfly Wings, with Buttercup Tea)
reminding and reassuring ourselves,
that we are
“safe enough, fed enough, loved enough, good enough”
just as we are

(including some gentle lullaby music to nurture us along)

~

The words on this image/page  came from the weekly Just One Thing (JOT) newsletter,      “Lower the Pressure  by Rick Hanson, author of Buddha’s Brain and  Just One Thing.

~

“True to my own North Star”
having a vision of inspiration and direction in our lives,
but also holding in awareness that in this moment,
we are usually…

“safe enough, fed enough, loved enough and good enough”

just as we are

~

I hope that each of us can find that North Star
but also be able to feel
safe enough…
fed enough….
loved enough…
  good enough….
just as we are…

My thanks to Rick Hanson PhD,  ( neuropsychologist)  for the inspiration of his ideas and insights. I highly recommend his books, Buddha’s Brain (which is even being sold at Costco now) and Just One Thing, and his weekly newsletter, Just One Thing. He and Rick Mendius, a neurologist, also have a huge website WiseBrain, a treasure chest of slide shows, information  and resources.

This is lovely … isn’t it a shame, we easily encourage friends and love ones … without doing the same for ourselves. Thank you for this inspirational reminder. Thank you for linking it to Nurturing Thursday! 😀

  2. Thank you, Becca. I think that both observations by many “knowledgeable” people and actual “research,” are showing that when people are kinder, more accepting and compassionate with themselves, that they are happier and then they are kinder, more accepting and compassionate with others…so everyone benefits from that nurturing and kindness.
I’m happy to participate in Nurturing Thursdays… a special idea…thank you.

Lovely! The North Star image warmed my heart.. and reminded me, I am safe enough, fed enough, loved enough, good enough just as I am… Your name and gratitude for this message is going to be one of my gratitude messages for today for my stained glassed jar. 😀

This was exactly what I needed to hear today…..I’m going through a difficult time trying to find my north star with all the violence and mayhem around us. My heart is still breaking over the monstrous cold-blooded shooting of at Sandy Hook and that horrific rape in India, and last night while I drove home from work I heard that there’s a maniac in a red car who has sexually molested dozens of young girls in an area not too far from my home – and just yesterday he ran out of his car in the nude and chased an 18-year-old girl who managed to get away…. oh god its too much. Whether its related to the line-up of the planets something that happens every 26,000 years something the Mayans understood [!] something to do with the Age of Aquarius, it doesn’t help me get out of bed every day.

    • I’m so sorry that you’re feeling overwhelmed…I feel that way sometimes too…there is so much happening that is negative, but I try to get my balance back by really, really noticing and focusing on the positives that are happening, too. I’m certain that the positives far outweigh the negatives, we just don’t hear about them. My own way of coping is to really look for and notice the positives all around me each day…within myself, among people I’m with, in my life, in the lives of those in my community. It’s my own way of “taking a stand”… to not become part of/taken down by the negativity, but rather to be a force for positive. I may not be able to stop the awful things that are happening, but I can be right here, creating actions of “goodness, kindness and love…” (some days are easier than others for that, however) I had a post awhile back about compassion burnout…similar to this…of having such a kind, open and tender heart that the sadness goes galloping in too far.. I do understand. https://pocketperspectives.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/balancing-compassion/ (btw, I don’t watch the news on tv and am very very careful not to read about violence…I just don’t have good “filters”)
ps… a moving poem, tying in with these ideas, that Joss, from Nova Scotia just posted… she reads it…”she who walks in beauty”… http://sacredcircleretreats.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/Joss-Walk-in-Beauty.mp3 http://crowingcrone.com/2013/01/04/my-voice-2/
