These qualities are called The Six Perfections: Generosity, Ethics, Patience, Joyful or Persistent Effort, Concentration and Wisdom…the goal being to progress in developing and “perfecting” these qualities in oneself and one’s everyday life…
And a few other special qualities…embedded within the perfections
qualities that might enhance one’s own life and the life of others…
compassion, comfort, kindness and nurturing
~
I also try to keep these qualities in mind as I teach each day in my own classroom…. I teach children who are in kindergarten through 5th grade…..so I created a presentation of some of the ideas that is more understandable and usable for them….especially the younger ones…..and it works for me, too!
~
~
And so….
a few qualities that might enhance each of our own days
as we offer them to ourselves
and others we interact with each day….

Funny….. thanks. I’m very fortunate to get to work with the kids I work with…they are extremely important to me….several of them have been very discouraged before they got extra help that was needed, so a big part of what I do it to help them get caught up…but even more important to help them to regain confidence and belief in themselves…and a twinkle in their eye as the learn what they had thought was too hard…but now isn’t… really, I’m extremely fortunate to have spent many years participating with them and nuturing them along.

Thanks…I try to have it be a happy, supportive environment.
I was trying to help the kids understand that living those qualities on that kids’ page is similar to “making one’s own sunshine”….by living like that one does create a kind of sunshine…for oneself and others…
And the perfections qualities do that too…whether giving or receiving them…

Thanks Brittany…. it’s interesting how powerful it can be to focus on living those attributes.
For those who might not be familiar with Brittany…she’s 18 (?) years old and started a one year project…the shyness project….one year ago…to work toward understanding shyness and moving past it…her blog chronicles her remarkable progress and insight..and she’s now writing a book about the year…wow…a remarkable young woman… you might want to take a peek at her blog..it’s very special…. : )

We must let our light so shine before men that they would find these qualities of generosity, compassion, comfort, kindness bursting forth from within themselves.

Thank you…. the past few days….well, week…I’ve been getting a post ready offering a variety of suncatchers to anyone who might like one/them….I have lots and lots of extras of around 15 different “images/pages”…I got very enthusiastic and made a bunch when I first figured out how to make them and they are just sitting there in envelopes…longing for sunshine, perhaps?

oh please post that and offer them for sale. I for sure would like one.Think of the joy you will spread.

I wouldn’t be able to sell them…. I have a firm belief that anything I’ve learned or created is here to be shared freely…. I’m guessing that might complicate things for some people, but I just can’t accept payment for them….they would be offered freely and happily…. just thinking of them on anybody’s windows would be such a happy thought… (I was slightly afraid to post/ask if anyone might want any…because….I was worried no one might want one…regressing to that 7th grader, I guess…. Isn’t that amazing that I could get to this “age” and still be concerned with such things????…and I didn’t know if people would want to send their addresses…. I’ve never handled things like this before, so don’t quite know how to go about it…)

oh we are silly humans, aren’t we? I include myself in the regressing to a 7th grader at times. I honour your choice and decision about what you learn or create. You know, if someone has issues with giving you their address, then they are just not meant to have one. how about a trade. One of your suncatchers for a copy of my book on Fibromyalgia – you can pass it on to someone if you don’t want it – you can email me at josslps@gmail.com

Good idea…I’d love a copy of your book….but the suncatchers are very simple, so maybe you’ll see several you might like? I’ll post them in the next day or two…at least I think that I will…. I could trade for other things too…a happy thought, a dried flower, a little piece of moss, a smile to a stranger, a hello or an offering to a homeless person, encouraging someone else….whatever anyone might like to offer to anyone else…that would be nice…

I really love and am inspired by the Perfections….I realized, after I left that link, that those pages look even “prettier” here on Reflections background http://reflectionsfromafriend.wordpress.com/extra-special-pages/perfections/ I have Perfections on space photos, forest photos, water photos, knitted scarf background… all inspirations to me.

Wow, I had seen this post in January but forgot about it, the word “perfections”, didn’t stick in my mind as I didn’t realize this based on the Buddhist path. Today, I really am paying attention and realize that the perfections is actually a path. This is so beautifully done. I feel sorry for the children that don’t have a teacher like you!

When I include “perfections” on PP, I don’t usually reference what “tradition” they’re from…because I think they transcend any particular tradition and are just special for living life. Most of the first year or two of “my” practice seemed to focus on patience, generosity and ethical choices…took awhile to get those a bit more consciously and fully developed in my life…I studied lots more, but also focused on living with those. The kids enjoyed that “creating my own sunshine” page…it was fun to create and a happy page to have on the classroom walls.
