“I did the best I could with what I knew how,
and when I knew better I did better”
is a paraphrase of a quote attributed to Maya Angelou. I really appreciate that idea…
that we’re all trying hard,
life can be complicated
and we’ve all done the best we were able to do in each moment…
and to recognize, accept and appreciate that
I think the phrase at the bottom of the photo is even more important to keep in mind…I try to keep that in mind in each day….particularly if I’m attempting do something difficult or that I don’t have experience with…that all I can do in each moment is the best I can do…given my own strengths and weaknesses and the needs of each situation….someday I might have more insight and skills..but in this moment this is all I can do…
I’m doing the best I can, with what I know how,
And when I know better, I’ll do better….
It’s a bit like that little stream…
where it’s been,
where it is now
where it’s going…
flowing along, bumping into rocks, shifting course as needed, swirling, tumbling at times, smooth pools at other times….just flowing along…
And so…when things might seem difficult or confusing…to keep in mind….
We’re all doing the best we can with what we know how.
And when we know better, we’ll do better
This is great to keep in mind. I think it reminds us to be patient with each other and most importantly ourselves!

We are doing the best we can… most of us are. Some I can vouch for, others I don’t know and then maybe that doesn’t matter… I love the quote and picture; relaxing and inviting.
Have a great week! 😉

I guess I try to focus on my own efforts, but also try to accept that others are trying in whatever ways they are able. .And the photo…it was such a pretty spot…taken on a hike outside Taos, New Mexico…a beautiful little stream.

Most of the time, I do the best I can. Other times, I slack off a bit. It’s all good. 😉

For me, it’s a matter of how important a situation or interaction is…maximum effort all the time would lead to complete burnout…so back to that balance again.

If we can’t do better next time, we haven’t learned anything 😉

This is so true and so refreshing to remember. When we know better, we do better. And when we try our best, our best will be shown. Thank you for this wonderful reminder. 🙂
