I had created a post about “being the hammer, not the nail…”
After posting those ideas, I was really uncomfortable with the images.
I realized that I actually “live” in a more subtle manner,
not hammering, not pounding…
(although more of that might be helpful)
but living with more gentleness….
perhaps a bit more like a potter and the clay?
~
Having the flexibility and agility to shift back and forth
from being like the potter…
doing, shaping, flexing
to being more like the clay…
shifting, flowing, evolving
back and forth…back and forth
from “doing” to “being”
from giving to receiving
from shaping to shifting
the flexibility, the agility…to be like both the potter and the clay
back and forth…back and forth
~

using the “gifts” of the potter…

and the “gifts” of the clay

in both roles…
both as the potter and the clay,
using gentleness, steadiness, calmness and sensitivity
~
~
so simple,
but sometimes seeming complex
back and forth, back and forth
~
~
at times seeming complex
but
…simple as can be…

I really like this…I tend to shift back and forth between the potter and the clay, too. This was a message I needed today…that both roles are gifts in themselves.

I think the ideas of potter and the clay blend in a similar manner to the ideas in your post from yesterday…the flexibility of saying to oneself “what if for one day we ____________________” …that kind of flexibility and willingness to shift, shape, be gently flexible etc …
here’s a link to that post by suzicate, for other readers http://suzicate.wordpress.com/2014/02/09/what-if-one-day/ …really good ideas in there…

This is so beautiful Kathy – like poetry in motion.
from being like the potter…
doing, shaping, flexing
to being more like the clay…
shifting, flowing, evolving
back and forth…back and forth
from “doing” to “being”
from giving to receiving
from shaping to shifting
so much of wisdom and grace in this.

“a really positive metaphor” yes, I think this is what it is. I would like to live with all these things that you describe as gifts. Maybe the gift of ‘calmness’ is what I especially need!
Thanks for this beautiful post and for the link to yesterday’s post of suzicate!

I’m so happy the ideas resonate with you….and yes, “calmness”….wouldn’t that be lovely to have on a consistent basis? I think the ideas in suzicate’s post are so special…happy you followed the link to there.

Getting into the flow of life is like this….though sometimes our emotions cause us to go back to the hammering style?

Yes…the flow…and, at least for me, learning/remembering to not shift/flip out into a more reactive “hammering” mode.
(and I was thinking yesterday…to try to stay flexible like moist clay and not drying out/firing into a more rigid state…I love pottery, but want to be flexible.)

That is a neat idea…like moist clay vs fired clay that becomes rigid.
