A sense of “wonder”… I wonder if I could do that???

I’m back…
from a summertime of wonder-filled vacations,
with wonder-filled people, places, ideas and activities…
Wow!
What a wonder-filled summer it has been!

~

When we were vacationing in Ireland, I saw some intriguing art in a small shop…the prints I saw seemed to be photos of some kind of fiber art…not sure what it was or how it was done…but the blendings of colors, lines, textures and images were filled with such a magical sense of wonder!

Aren’t those just amazing!
The artist…Suzy Sullivan…lives in County Mayo in Ireland…
what magical art she creates!

Her creations certainly are magical!

Then I started wondering….
???…..hmmmmm…..???

~

felt art... I wonder if I could do that?

~

Well… I DID find someone to ask…you just never know “who” knows “what”….my daughter Julie knew!  Easy as that!  Julie recognized the materials, and when we were vacationing  in Olympia and the SanJuan Islands, Washington, she found several wonderful yarn shops and showed me the materials…. and encouraged me to buy some beginner supplies so I could try creating  my own beginning projects…thank you, Julie!

~

So……here you go…
apparently, it’s called “needle felting”….
and it’s a REALLY enjoyable, seemingly easy and fun craft.
(Obviously not at the level of Suzy Sullivan’s work,
but still really enjoyable and fun to create!)

I think others might enjoy needle felting, too!
It might be worth a try!

I created a mountain scene…
the rolling ridges of mountains,
the rich greens of New Hampshire, Ireland and Washington,
all beautiful places I visited this summer…
such beauty in nature
~

This morning, as I looked at the felt piece I had created,
I started wondering again…
???…more wondering…???
…..hmmmmm…..
I wonder if I could add wire to that felting?
wire that follows the ridge lines…

….hmmmm….
…still more wondering…
I wonder if I could hang the felt from a piece of wire…
hanging it on windows or the shower door???
well…
I guess so….

needle felting...I wonder if I can do that..wonder, wonder, wonder

~

wow!…
look what a sense of “wonder” can lead to…
wonder-filled curiosity!
wonder-filled ideas!
wonder-filled possibilities!
wonder-filled opportunities!
Oh…
the remarkable joys of living with a sense of open curiosity and  wonder!

~
May we all live each day
with an increasing sense of curiosity, possibility, opportunity and wonder!
wonder…wonder…wonder

  1. oh I think this is a wonder-ful craft. And look at you, with a bit of curiosity, a bit of encouragement, a bit of wonder and magic happens. So inspiring. I have this dream of creating woven wall hangings and one of my goals, while in Europe, is checking out looms and fibers and maybe, who knows, taking a class or two….

    • Oh, Joss…I hope you do start creating woven wall hangings…they’re so lovely and such variety in how they are created….looms, fibers, classes…who know what might happen??? Oh, such opportunities you’ll have! I’m so happy for you and really looking forward to reading about your adventures!

    • Well, it sure was enjoyable creating that little piece… and so quick and easy, too…Who knows what’s next? I think I’ll try little nesting bowls!…or maybe…ummm…who knows what??? So many possibilities!
(and I just started learning how to wire wrap, too…wrapping thin wire around pretty little rocks we found on the Washington beaches…and then putting them on necklaces…more fun, but a bit more challenging than felting…but fun!)

Look at you go! I have a friend who created some felt art for me, and I love it. What you did is beautiful. đŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Robin, at this point, it seems to be easy! I think that if one gets good quality and colors of “roving” and then simply blends loved/compatible colors…maybe it just turns out appealing? I think there are tons of possibilities…and seemingly quick-ish and easy-ish… now THAT’S a great combination! (but I’m guessing it might be harder than I’m thinking at this point..time will tell…maybe Pocket Perspectives will start to turn into a craft blog???? đŸ™‚ ….oh, possibilities! )

    • I feel a bit lost in “time” and “space”…where am I? what day is it?…so many wonderful travels, but a bit disorienting now that I’m back. ( And, goodness, life “on the road” with inconsistent and limited internet…what a change that was….after an initial sense of withdrawal, I did get used to it.) Enjoying creative projects is a great way to settle back in… đŸ™‚
