Kindness can open a “shuttered” heart

Some days, we might feel more “open-hearted”
connected, expansive, welcomed and full.

~

Other days it might feel a bit like there are “shutters” over our hearts…
maybe a bit closed, cut off, removed…
possibly a bit worried, concerned or sad

~

but…
through the years,
I’ve notice something…

 I’ve noticed…
kindness can help to open the shutters on a heart

~

~

Perhaps there is a shuttered heart?

~

So hard to see out….
so hard to let in
shutters seeming to be firmly in place
light just not coming through

~

~

but then, some kindness is offered
some kindness is received…

~

~

a little bit of kindness
and some more kindness
and some more kindness
slowly, slowly adding strength,
helping to open those shutters
light seeping in

~

~

little…by little…by little…

~

~

opening those shutters…
shrinking their size…
light coming in

~

Kathy, Being human we all experience times when the shutters of the heart close down because we are in the midst of a struggle. Kindness is a light that just shines through those closed shutters and opens them. Your images are amazing!

And hi Peter! Your wife is a wonderful teacher of love and kindness. 🙂

  5. What an en-light-ening metaphor!! As the recipient of random acts of kindness on days when I felt all shuttered up, I totally resonate with your beautiful point–the warmth of loved ones and strangers has so much power to bring light to the shadowed rooms of the heart. Lovely post!!

    • thank you….I guess we can all relate to the idea of a sense of shutters over our hearts…or the hearts of others…and the goodness of those people who offer kindness to help bring the light back in…a lovely gift indeed.

    • I agree….it is amazing to be in the presence of those who exude love and kindness. Even for very kind and loving people, however, I think it’s difficult to maintain such a high level of unconditional acceptance, but I personally consider it to be a wonderful aspiration.

Perhaps kindness can also keep the shutters from closing in the first place. Thanks.
