  3. This is lovely :-). And something I really need to embrace. I’ve never felt a true sense of home since I left the house I grow up in. Whilst with my husband (for 12 years), there was no stability in the relationship and I never felt safe. Never put photos on the walls etc. After he left, I still have a lot of fear about trusting my current situation. So I often try to “escape” my house. I need to learn to embrace it and feel warm and comforted in it’s presence.

    • I’ve tended to create a “nest” in our home….with colors and textures that I find soothing, little collections that I enjoy etc….not expensive, but creating a “nest” that I relate to. (that wall hanging is a quilt made by a friend…I thought it was so pretty… so put it on the wall)…but the best is…bed with pillows, comforter etc…now that’s a nest for sure! I hope you can start creating this sense in your home…it’s a lovely feeling to develop. Of course, the best refuge isn’t in “things,”, but within one’s heart/mind, however that might be developed or accessed. (wish you lived closer…I could pass along lots of “pretty little things/decorations” to you… : ) )

      • Thank you so much Kathy for those thoughts – I am so touched! I wished I lived closer too, just so we could have a cuppa :-). And that’s so true – true comfort and peace is found within ourselves. Yet it is also comforting to have beautiful things around us ♥

I love to be surrounded by beauty as I am sensitive to environment because as a child, I grew up in a poor home that used to be embarrassing for me at the time. I admit that I don’t live exactly the way I wish I could, but yet, at the same time there is a simple beauty in our home with some not so pretty areas that need a makeover.

    • Marie, I think you have the best refuge of all…the abundant beauty of living with a kind heart/spirit….nothing surpasses that! And simple beauty in little spots in a home, smiles between people, and nature outside…pure joy of refuge there too! 😀

        • Marie, are you able to hear music…?I’m just now listening, and “dancing” to something you might enjoy… Aud Guray Nameh by DevaPremal …it’s considered a song of healing and protection…a quote about it “The mantra speaks of bowing to the Guru, to the inner wisdom that brings us from darkness to light. We bow to the wisdom which existed at the beginning of time, to the wisdom which has existed throughout the ages, to the true identity of the self, and to that inner teacher whose glory will always be.” it’s a lovely song

great point, I too take refuge from the world in my own little word, my temple (~_~)

    • I think the most meaningful “refuge” is in a kind heart and a steady mind….and sometimes the bonus of a strong and healthy body to support those…special temples, indeed. But until I develop more consistency in those steadier refuges, my home seems to my spot!…and nature….rainforests, woods, redwoods, rivers, mountains…and of course, spiritual practice too.
