“Mindfulness”….watching the activities of a busy mind

~

~

Do you ever pause and notice the activities of your mind?
It can be a very busy place!

~

At times,
watching the multitude of activities in the mind
can feel a bit like watching lively children
cavorting,
rumbling,
tumbling about
…busy….busy…busy…busy…
~

~

Living with a  “busy mind” can be tiring
and the thought of a “quiet mind”
can be so soothing

~

And so….
how to quiet those busy “children”
??????

~

Perhaps, bringing the mind back
to each present moment
right here
right now
again and again and again

~

~

One of the benefits to coming back to the present moment
is that there is almost always something positive happening
but…
if we’re not “here”…
we won’t notice it
we won’t see it
we won’t feel it
we won’t get to enjoy it or appreciate it
we won’t get to “take it in”
we’ll probably just miss it
and that would be unfortunate

~

~

There is, however, a  potential challenge
in getting the mind back to “now”
Have you ever tried to quiet
a group of rowdy, cavorting children?

~

One needs to keep bringing the mind back
to this moment of
“now”
consistently….persistently…gently
and with kindness
keep bringing it back
again and again and again

bringing the mind back
….quieting the mind….

~

~

~

Quieting the mind
shhhhhh…..

~

ah…
the beauty of….
those moments with a quiet mind

Reading this actually helped to quiet my mind. It was like I was being hypnotized. And that fairy lady kept getting bigger and bigger the quieter my mind got. How did you do that? LOL! The sweet serene now;)

    • Thanks, Marie…soothing is good… : )
Oh….I think that’s it….again and again and again….enough to wear a person out…kind of like babysitting rowdy kids…or being on elementary school “yard duty” But actually, I think she’s very lovely and so are the little ones around her…quite magical.

    • Isn’t she a lovely “mind”…and that image…it was on a “greeting card” that I kept sending to my daughter, year after year….when she was at summer camps….but I never remembered I had sent it…I just loved that image!….so gentle and loving. I asked my daughter about it last night and she says there were at least 4 summers of me sending that card….but she loves the image too. The card reminds me of your post about sending off letters to summer camp, too…wonderful memories aren’t they?

    KINDNESS

    Be kind to yourself
    But not indulgent
    Return from distraction

I frequently have “monkey mind” and find that nature is my best medicine. One of my favorite quotes comes from the movie The Last Samurai. Tom Cruise’s character is being taught how to use a sword and keeps messing up and is told, “too many mind!”

    • That’s a great way of putting it… “too many mind”…. and yes, that monkey mind can be sooooo active. Nature is calming to me too…I’m just, now….well, not quite “now,” ; ) …. (monkey mind got distracted and left the creating of those “pages”and came to visit comments…. : ) ) making some more “pages” for myself, using the words from the song “peaceful easy feeling….already standing on the ground “….with a photo of lots of roots growing into the ground… thanks for you ideas… : ) ….

        • oh noooooooo…… tell me you didn’t just encourage that distractible mind!!!!…. it will jump from tree to tree at a moment’s notice….especially when encouraged! 😀 but, actually…thanks for that encouragement! : ) (I had just realized that as far as the line…”standing on the ground”…. from the song…we already ARE standing on the ground, we just don’t notice that we are… uh oh…now that’s more pages! : ) This might be called the “frolic-ing” mind, from one of the pages above…. : ) )
