A mother’s wish…. “believe in yourself…” A beautiful poem by “hugmamma”

hugmamma, from “hugmamma’s Mind, Body and Soul”
wrote and posted her wonderful poem… “Believe”…last fall…
I think the sentiments in her poem are so beautifully expressed…

~

And since it’s Mother’s Day….
I think her poem expresses
what every mother would like to pass along
to each of her children…
whomever each of us might be “mothering,”
whether the children be…
actual children,
siblings, friends, partners, family,
our own mothers and fathers
whomever it might be…
to believe…

And perhaps,
this is what our own mothers might have hoped
could be passed along to each of us…
whether it was able to be expressed or not…
I truly believe that sentiment is somewhere in there,
somewhere within every mother’s heart…

~

Not only is it so important to read and taken in those ideas,
but to continually nurture them in one’s heart…
to nurture them
and to have access to them
to be able to hold them up
like a flame…a candle….a light
as a light in our lanterns…
for ourselves and for each other
the light of a mother’s  love…
the light of believing in oneself
a light in a lantern
nurturing, encouraging and guiding us along…

And if that light flickers or becomes hard to see…
to know that someone…
perhaps a friend, a  pet, a loved one…
or maybe even your own mother…
….or your mother’s love…
her hopes for you to believe in yourself…
her wishes for your happiness…
they are right there in the light of this candle
being held high for each one of us

And so whether we are mothering…
…or being mothered….
it’s a continuing, changing cycle
throughout all of  our relationships…
maybe we bring nurturing, kindness, compassion, encouragement, strength and joy
to each other…
….this is to mother you….

….and so….
filled with thankfulness for being the mother of my own daughter
and the daughter of my own mother,
and for the enriching “mothering” among friends
for the joys, the laughter, the tears, the adventures, the love

to hold that light high…
to believe in yourself
and
“to always believe
that happiness is there for the taking
in all the small moments
every day of your life”

This is
this mother’s wish….

~

May we also share our wonderful “mother love” with each other…
in whatever ways we are able …
and receive that love with thankfulness and appreciation
…every day of our lives…
….this is a wish that I have….

Beautiful message that will touch mothers everywhere and all who are mothering others. I am do not have children, but just realized that I did mother my Mom when she was elderly, and my older sister and friends when they are in need. So thank you for reminding me that I indeed have been a mother.

Have a Happy Mothers’ Day with much love!

I am going to emulate you and add a message to my comments field to not forget to uncheck the follow up comments. Good idea! 🙂

    • One point I was trying to remind all of us about is that all of us are “mothers”….to expand how we think of the word “mother”….we may not think of that expanded idea at times, but we are….we mother others all the time…your book is an example of that….you’re offering inspiration, soothing, encouragement to all who read it…and you do that in your blog and in your caring and thoughtful comments too…yes, you are a lovely mother to many…

  4. Your pockets of perspectives are lifting me higher and higher. I simply am smitten with each one.
    Two questions please:
    1. Have you ever read Hugh Prather, Notes To Myself” is one of his books. Maybe the most popular. You remind me of him, I have every book of his in my library.
    2. I create hand made cards, I’d like your permission to use some of your pockets perspectives as sentiments. Would you be okay with this is? (a) I give credit where credit is due, on back along with my name, and ….(b) I do not sell them usually – although have done some custom work for folks.

And if you are no comfortable with this I wil not take it personal. I promise I understand, not so sure how I would answer even.

    • Hi BB….thank you for your kind words…I’m so happy that the ideas in PP resonate with you…. : ) (and do you know that various cards…3 or 4 each day…are in my pocket with me each day…I look through them and choose a few each day, depending on what I’m “doing” that day….)
And I haven’t heard of Hugh Prather…I’ll google him and look into his books. What a kind compliment you offer me to think of me in such company…. : )
And you are very welcome to use my pp sentiments…as you may have noticed, I don’t add my name to the images/pages…I want the ideas to speak to others in terms of their perspectives as they read and look at them, not my own…it’s about what each person takes from the ideas, not what about how I came to the perspective. I’d love to see a photo of a completed card, if you might email one to me. I also occasionally make cards out of the images…I figure they come from my heart, so it makes sense to give what came from my own heart. I’m happy that you gain value from the pages… : )

  8. As you retire, I’m thinking of all the children you have taught, mothered, friended, nursed with a hankie or reminder of their meds, bought lunch for, whose parents you have visited with, encouraged, whose hands you have held, welcomed, celebrated with, reminded, ♥d in so many ways and inspired. Happy Mother’s Day to you.

    • ah, Georgette, you caught that… you wrote that so beautifully…thank you..yes, teachers have mothered so many children and the children’s mothers….One of my deepest inspirations is to do for “the kids” what their mothers cannot do…in whatever ways that I can. I will always dig down very deep to find that extra mega-energy to help another mother’s child. That page with “to mother you” was actually my inspiration every day this past week during the week long STAR test…to try to encourage and nurture the kids the way their moms would do, if they could have been there in the room with them…it really does help me reach way down deep and find that extra energy…….And a very Happy Mother’s Day to you too… : )

Always believing that her happiness was there for the taking is EXACTLY what I worked to instill in my daughter–and still do, at her age of 39! And so I still communicate to my son and son-in-law and daughter-in-law and, through them, to my two dear grandchildren. This kind of teaching goes on for a lifetime with us mothers and grandmothers!
