To do something we might be meant to do…

A few months ago, I saw a quote about doing what one  “wants to do” until it’s time to do something one is “meant to do.”  I’ve spent months pondering this idea….wondering whether I think there really is  “something” that a person is “meant” to do.

I’m guessing that there are varying opinions on this… As far as I’ve gotten with it is…

We all have a variety of strengths and talents

Some might be “natural” talents that are “part of us”
Others might be strengths or talents that  we’ve developed through the years.
Some we might enjoy using…
Some we might use occasionally,
and others we might use all the time….
8

But some of those strengths may have blossomed
beyond what we might have thought would or could happen.
And perhaps it’s  some of  those strengths
that we might be “meant” to use,
at certain times in our lives,
in a manner that could  bring benefit to others or ourselves…
8

And if we are very fortunate,
we might be able to seek opportunities
or find opportunities
or actually have opportunities
to use those strengths and talents in our everyday lives,
as we are “doing” what we actually want to do…

Added a few days later: Here are some very special and relevant ideas from a post, Living the Good Life, by Nancy Hatch at Spirit Lights the Way:

Adding to post again: Betsy Rose, a wonderful singer and political activist (who lives in Berkeley) writes and sings songs to many women’s hopes and fears as we search for and express our own sense of meaning….here’s a link to her singing parts, or all, of some of her inspiring, nurturing and encouraging songs on the CD Welcome to the Circle, all tying in with the motivation for this idea.

“There’s a song in my heart”

“There’s a song in my heart
It’s been singing all my life
There’s a voice in my body that is true
There is so much woman inside of me
Gonna open up and let her come into the light
Gonna open up and let her through”

“How could anyone ever tell you?”
(we all do have value and can make a difference)

“How could anyone ever tell you
You were anything less than beautiful
How could anyone ever tell you
You were less than whole
How could any one fail to notice
that your loving is a miracle
How deeply you’re connected to my soul”

Another special song, about the circle of people moving forward with love and support,
(you can hear the entire song in this link: Welcome to the Circle)

“Welcome to the Circle”

“So welcome to this circle
Whatever brought you here
The valleys and the mountain tops
The muddy and the clear
And know your work is worthy
And know your heart is true
And know that all you give away
Will come circling back to you
You’ve got to know that all you give away
Will come circling back to you.”

~

Another song I love, about using Loving kindness as motivation

  “Metta Karuna”

“Metta Karuna
Mudita Uppekha
Metta Karuna
Mudita Uppekha”

~

Inspiration for courage and balance

“May you walk in your life as a warrior”

“May you walk in your life as a warrior
Clear and loving and strong
May you walk in your life as a warrior
Trusting the path you are on

May you walk in your life as a healer
Clear and loving and strong
May you walk in your life as a healer
Trusting the path you are on

May you walk in your life as a woman
Clear and loving and strong
May you walk in your life as a woman
Trusting the path you are on
Clear and loving and strong
Trusting the path you are on.”

~

The CD is wonderful!  I have several copies of it.  I really recommend listening to and being inspired by all the songs in that CD.  I find tremendous inspiration through music, a back door (or front door) to the heart, spirit and mind.

I feel like there is something that I am “meant” to do . . . and that I’m currently in a “holding pattern” waiting for the right time to do IT.

I don’t know what IT is.

    • I had a strong sense of that for a few years…and this is kind of odd…I just realized this….one day, around 3 years ago, an actual, real wooden front door was unexpectedly opened for me by someone I’d never even heard of before and there was an “it” right there…so a literal and figurative doorway opened. (I just realized a few minutes ago that the door was literally a door too…this page was made many years before that door opened https://pocketperspectives.wordpress.com/2011/07/22/doorways-with-curiosity-and-courage/ ) But, yes, I know that sense of “IT”….and not knowing what “IT” is…I continue to have a sense of that.

I know in my heart of hearts what I am meant to do, but need the passion and self-confidence to venture forward.

Definitely, there’s a reason behind our talents and preferences – they lead us to how only we as individuals can contribute to the pool, creating and finding our own solutions to problems which are only superficially ours. To me, that’s what we are meant to do: to create variety, to take Life further by growth and overcoming problems – all not for us, but because of us.

  4. Good Morning! I’ve never thought about this this way. I’ve always had a sort of all or nothing mentality. I’m either doing what I’m meant to do or I’m enduring the agony of doing what I have to do until I can get to what I’m meant to do. That’s a lousy way to think. I’ve got a variety of strengths and a few talents. I’m grateful for it all. I also think it’s time to shift my thinking. 😉
    Nice post!

    • Thanks Leah….I wonder if maybe there are a variety of potential “meant to do’s”???…maybe we’re planting and nurturing those talents…seeds and seedlings, all the time…even when enduring other tasks. Maybe it’s like a garden with the potential for lots of plants to grow ….and at some point the opportunities or conditions may develop or appear for several of them to burst forth or bloom with abundance?
