Starting Monday, October 8 there will be a very special sounding, FREE 7 part online video event series…. The Compassionate Brain, presented by Sounds True and moderated by Rick Hanson. Each week will feature a knowledgeable and highly respected author or researcher, associated with the study of compassion.

Below are copy/paste of details about the teachings from the Sounds True website

The weekly topics and presenters include:
~
Week 1: look what just flew in, as I was watching session 1…
October 8, 5:30PM
a Canadian Goose arrived in our pool…
compassion for all beings
lines from Mary Oliver poem, The Wild Geese
(perfect with the compassion theme…)
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.”

Though, I can’t participate because of my hearing difficulties, it is wonderful you shared this so others can enjoy this program. I am fascinated by how thoughts and attitude affects our brain. I have read several books by Dr. Amen and Joe Dispenza. Will share your post in Facebook!

I tend to prefer reading books to listening to presentations….I can control the pace, and books usually go into greater depth, which I like. The power and influence of thoughts/attitudes on our state of being is amazing…I’ve spent that past few days seeing that way more closely than I’d like.
Kristin Neff has a nice website and a very good book about self compassion. http://www.self-compassion.org/ I created a whole progression of working with reactions, partly using some of her ideas.

And I first heard the very special phrases, “Just like myself, this person wishes for/to be………….” in Kelly McGonigal’s site: http://kellymcgonigal.com/

This looks like a fascinating series. Thanks for sharing the information with us.Though I do like videos when given a choice I strongly prefer reading text to watching videos. Call me eccentric but I don’t know why one would have to register to watch a free video series. I assume there’s a reason for that but I’ll wait to watch on youtube when the series is over.

I think it looks fascinating, too.
I prefer books/text, too…I like going into greater depth than with talks. That’s a good idea to watch on youtube. I linked blogs (and “pages” I’ve created using some of their ideas) of two of those authors, Kristin Neff and Kelly McGonigal, in the comment/reply just above this one…(to Marie/Sufilight.)

I saw some information about the series in a e-newletter I receive from The Greater Good Science Center at UCBerkeley. ( http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/ ) I’m also familiar with Rick Hanson through a variety of classes I’ve taken from/with him…he’s good!
What wonderfully busy days you’re enjoying… a real inspiration! 😀
ps…interesting looking slide shows on that UCBerkeley site… lots of interesting topics. http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/resources/slide_presentations
